Hawaii (HI) Drug and Alcohol Rehab

Scope of Problem

The fact that Hawaii is largely geographically isolated from the rest of the country in no way mitigates the severity of its drug problem. In fact, drug and alcohol rehab are needed in Hawaii just as much as in other states. The state does a majority of its illegal drug business with the west coast, and harbors a particularly high-quality methamphetamine, known as “ice”, that is coveted by a large chunk of the state’s tourist population. This methamphetamine problem remains the most serious illegal drug threat in the state. Hawaii is also home to a booming club drug and prescription addiction culture. The number of quality drug and alcohol rehab centers in Hawaii has skyrocketed since the early 90s, when for a while, admissions basically tripled with each successive year. Hawaii also houses a thriving domestic marijuana industry, through which people of all ages, social statuses and ethnicities abuse the locally grown, high-potency product. As recently as five years ago, Hawaii ranked in the top five for methamphetamine-addicted criminals. Unless enforcement, treatment and the development of more Hawaii drug and alcohol rehab facilities are immediately implemented, this is not likely to change.

HI Drug Rehab

The Hawaii illegal drug market is seeing an ever-increasing inventory of product. Substance abuse threats are growing and changing, and require equally matched drug rehab programs to properly deal with them. The state’s remote location and beautiful scenery make it an ideal location to sequester yourself and take the time you need to get well. For residents combating addiction, there are many quality drug rehab programs with expert staff, effective methodologies and proven results. No matter what substance brought you to this point, there is a program that will help you achieve sobriety.

HI Alcohol Rehab

We often regard Hawaii as an island paradise with a never-ending nightlife. A tragic reality for both its tourists and residents is that such a reputation often perpetuates alcoholism. From the unwitting vacationer for whom addiction starts to take root on their trip, to the citizen who enjoys remarkably easy access to cheap liquor and a hot bar culture, it’s easy to see how alcoholism can be birthed and nurtured in Hawaii. Fortunately there are quality and effective alcohol programs all over to help Hawaii-based alcoholics get back on their feet. Be sure to research your options diligently to find the best one for you.

HI Detox

The first step to independence from any substance is a quality, safe and professionally administered detox. Most detox programs are staffed with medical experts who do their best to alleviate your symptoms, and make you as comfortable as possible. They understand that the more comfortable a patient is during the detox process, the more receptive they will be to its completion and the subsequent stages of rehabilitation. Detox is one of the most important stages in the recovery process, so be sure the detox program you choose is one that’s worthy of your efforts, and capable of guiding you to lasting health.

HI Marijuana Abuse

Purity of product and widespread domestic cultivation make marijuana abuse one of Hawaii's most common drug problems. Hawaii consistently ranks number one in the country for domestic production of optimum-quality marijuana, and is also a major exporter to the rest of the United States. Domestic marijuana farmers have cultivation down to a science, and are able to produce product with the highest THC levels because of the state’s especially rich soil, and a specialized hybrid growth technique. A majority of the state’s marijuana supply is grown right within its borders on Oahu. Marijuana abuse spans all sections of the state’s population.

HI Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine addiction has seen only a modest decrease among Hawaii's population. Despite heightened enforcement efforts and more frequent seizures, cocaine remains widely accessible. Perpetuated by the state’s tourism climate, cocaine addiction and abuse often occurs in conjunction with heroin and marijuana use, making the problem particularly dangerous. A variety of foreign factions act as controlling entities of local sales and distribution. Almost all of the cocaine that can be found in Hawaii is shipped from the west coast via commercial and private air and sea transportation.

HI Heroin Addiction

At the present moment, heroin addiction is primarily confined to the state’s major metropolitan areas. However there have been signs that this is changing. Local and state law enforcement have taken a hard line against the drug’s proliferation and are watching the situation closely. Mexican black tar heroin is the primary variety found around Hawaii. An increase in the frequency of seizures indicates that heroin addiction is slowly spreading to the suburbs and rural areas of the state. Southeast Asian heroin is occasionally found, but is nowhere near as common as black tar.

HI Methamphetamine Addiction

There is perhaps no greater illegal drug threat to the state’s residents than methamphetamine addiction. In many of the state’s locations, the illegal drug underworld revolves around high-purity crystal methamphetamine. Meth addiction is responsible for more of the state’s drug rehab admissions and drug-related incarcerations than any other substance abuse problem. Though a majority of Hawaii’s methamphetamine supply comes from the west coast and Mexico, the state is also home to a thriving network of clandestine laboratories where homegrown product is cooked up for personal consumption and statewide distribution. Methamphetamine addiction has perpetuated a crisis atmosphere of gangland violence and criminal activity in many of the state’s cities and neighborhoods.

HI Prescription Drug Abuse

Unlike other states, where OxyContin is the king of illegal prescription drug abuse, hydrocodone is the dominant pharmaceutical in Hawaii. Prescription abuse can take root via a number of circumstances, the most dominant of which are interstate shipment, dishonest or incompetent doctors, and unregulated Internet sales. Anabolic steroid use is another big part of local prescription abuse, thanks to the state’s bodybuilder culture. The prescription drug abuse epidemic has led to rash of pharmacy and person-to-person theft over the last few years, and has affected more and more of the state’s younger population.

HI Club Drug Abuse

Hawaii is home to a booming nightclub culture, a generous portion of which experiments with club drugs. The club drug family consists of MDMA (molly), GHB, LSD, Ketamine and PCP. Club drug abuse has historically threatened the state’s youth and barfly population, but is now making its way into colleges and universities. Molly is the most popular drug in the family. All Hawaiian club drugs are shipped into the state via air and sea vessels, and are controlled mainly by Asian gangs. Club drug abuse has also become a regular pastime for some of the state’s military personnel.

The drug threats facing Hawaii are a little different than that of many other states, but no less severe. Methamphetamine continues to dominate the state’s illicit substance underworld, while bringing with it a culture of crime and violence. To make matters worse, prescription dependence and club drug addiction grows by the day, with no ceiling in sight. Without the implementation of more drug and alcohol rehab facilities, the state is in danger of becoming a target-state for more and more drug trafficking organizations, and succumbing to new threats in their battle against substance abuse and addiction.
